miracle: A power & prayer nite that i wont forget!

i brought my mum to Grace Assembly of Church last last friday 31 AUG as there is a special speaker from US and it was a service for healing. My mum was diagnosed with liver problem after removal of her glad bladder(doctor saw abnormality on her liver during the operation) and she feels tired very often and don't have appetite. She has been seeing a liver specialist since then. During that service, the pastor spoke about the many miracleous healings he witnessed in his life as a pastor, including bringing a dead baby to life in his church, praying for the crippled, and afterwards he walked again! He highlighted that to get a healing we first have to have DESIRE, then FAITH< THEN we have to ASK and the when God gives us the healing, we have to RECEIVE.

The presence of God was felt in the service. He then asked who wants to accept Jesus as His personal Saviour, and my mum wanted. She was too shy to raise her hands... But suddenly, a group of people began to walk to the alter simultaneously , so i looked at her and told her that we should all go in front. We made our way out and stood there, i was touched by the Holy Spirit and began to tear, then the pastor came and prayed for my mum. We went back to our seats and then asked a pastor who can speak Cantonese to lead my mum into the sinner's prayer! We have faith that God had began working in my mum's condition.

Today sept 11, we went for a dr's check up and the dr confirmed that my mum's liver function has improved from B to A now. praise GOD!! My mum can drive around, eat more and even watch movie now...she recently catch 881. She has been taking naps throughout the day but since yesterday she said she didnt take any nap. She feels that she is much better now. Pray that God will cont. to work in her life and we are going to sat 5pm Cantonese srv at my church!

Take time to pray

I got up early one morning,
And rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish,
I didn’t have time to pray.

Troubles just tumbled about me,
And heavier came each task.
"Why doesn’t God help me?" I wondered.

He answered, "You didn’t ask."

I tried to come into God’s presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"Why, child, you didn’t knock."

I wanted to see joy and beauty,
But the day toiled on gray and bleak.
I wondered why God didn’t show me.
He said, "You didn’t seek."

And paused before entering the day.

That I had to take time to pray.

I came across this poem in a newsletter email today. I remember reading this before years ago, and I remember that it encouraged me then.

As I read it again today, I feel encouraged once again. So many times, I find myself guilty of rushing through my day, not taking the time to pray in the morning before entering the day. I take it for granted that I can have everything under my control, as long as I plan it well. It isn't difficult to guess that "troubles just tumbled about me", and how "the day toiled on gray and bleak".

God is loving and merciful, yet He wants us to seek Him because He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him. The Bible tells us to Ask, Seek and Knock in Matthew 7:7-12.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

This short poem has reminded me that the best way to start my day is not to have the most satisfying breakfast nor the best cup of coffee. The best way to start my day is to seek the Lord by praying and reading His word, and committing the rest of the day into His loving hands.

For it is written, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4

it's me again.
god has been good. In the recent UOB Painting of the Year Competition, through God's grace, I have won not one but TWO awards. There are more than 1000 entries and 800 artists took part. It is really God's blessings that I got the certificate of distinction ( $1000 prize money) , there are only 4 in total in the whole competition, and a highly-commended work. I have been taking part faithfully every year since my last highly-commended work "BAMBOO" in 1999. Yes, that long ago.

Shiyun's Opening @ Que Pasa

I have not met Novi for a long while. She has changed quite a bit that I probably could not recognise if I were to bump into her along the street. She has transformed into a mature and joyful young lady. We spent the evening walking down memory lane when we talked about how I used to tutor her when she was in primary and secondary school and how I followed Ida and her back to Jakarta and Puncak during the school holidays many years back.















































I have not attended Shiyun's art show opening for a while. I was a bit embarrassed for not being supportive enough. But I am thankful that I attended this one and caught up with old friends. Whenever I pause and admire her art work, I am always amazed at how God has worked in her life. Every semester in class, I share her testimony of how she takes courage in defying social norms and following her dreams to become who she is today. I am proud of this good old friend of mine!

What is faith?

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." - Hebrews 11:1

Faith

I received this email in 2003 and read it again ten minutes ago. It is quite an interesting debate between a student and his professor about the problem science has with Jesus Christ.

Faith
"Let me explain the problem science has with Jesus Christ."
The atheist professor of philosophy pauses before his class and then asks one of his new students to stand.

"You're a Christian, aren't you, son?"
"Yes sir," the student says.

"So you believe in God?"
"Absolutely."

"Is God good?"
"Sure! God's good."

"Is God all-powerful? Can God do anything?"
"Yes."

"Are you good or evil?"
"The Bible says I'm evil."

The professor grins knowingly.
"Aha! The Bible!" He considers for a moment.

'Here's one for you. Let's say there's a sick person over here and you can cure him. You can do it. Would you help them? Would you try?"
"Yes sir, I would."

"So you're good...!"
"I wouldn't say that."

"But why not say that? You'd help a sick and maimed person if you could. Most of us would if we could. But God doesn't."
The student does not answer, so the professor continues. "He doesn't, does he? My brother was a Christian who died of cancer, even though he prayed to Jesus to heal him. How is this Jesus good? Hmmm? Can you answer that one?"

The student remains silent.
"No, you can't, can you?" the professor says. He takes a sip of water from a glass on his desk to give the student time to relax.

"Let's start again, young fella. Is God good?"
"Er... Yes," the student says.

"Is Satan good?"

The student doesn't hesitate on this one. "No."
Then where does Satan come from?"

The student falters. "From... God..."
That's right. God made Satan, didn't he? Tell me, son. Is there evil in this world?"

"Yes, sir."
"Evil's everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything, correct?"

"Yes."
"So who created evil?"

Again, the student has no answer.
"Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness. All these terrible things, do they exist in this world?"

The student squirms on his feet. "Yes."
"So who created them?"

The student does not answer again, so the professor repeats his question, "Who created them? "
There is still no answer. Suddenly the lecturer breaks away to pace in front of the classroom. The class is mesmerized.

"Tell me," he continues. "Do you believe in Jesus Christ, son? The student's voice betrays him and cracks.
"Yes, professor. I do."

The old man stops pacing. "Science says you have five senses you use to identify and bserve the world around you. Have you ever seen Jesus?"
"No sir. I've never seen Him."

"Then tell us if you've ever heard your Jesus?"
"No, sir. I have not."

"Have you ever felt your Jesus, tasted your Jesus or smelt your Jesus?
Have you ever had any sensory perception of Jesus Christ, or God for that matter.
"No, sir, I'm afraid I haven't."

"Yet you still believe in him?"
"Yes."

"According to the rules of empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your God doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
"Nothing," the student replies. "I only have my faith."

"Yes, faith," the professor repeats. "And that is the problem science has with God. There is no evidence, only faith."
The student stands quietly for a moment, before asking a question of his own.

"Professor, is there such thing as heat?"
"Yes," the professor replies. "There's heat."

"And is there such a thing as cold?"
"Yes, son, there's cold too."

"No sir, there isn't."
The professor turns to face the student, obviously interested. The room suddenly becomes very quiet. The student begins to explain.

"You can have lots of heat, even more heat, super-heat, mega-heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat, but we don't have anything called 'cold'. We can hit 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold;
otherwise we would be able to go colder than -458 degrees. You see, sir, cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat we can measure in thermal units because heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it."
Silence across the room. A pen drops somewhere in the classroom, sounding like a hammer.

"What about darkness, professor. Is there such a thing as darkness?"
"Yes," the professor replies without hesitation. "What is night if it isn't darkness?"

"You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is not something; it is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light... but if you have no light constantly you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? That's the meaning we use to define the word. In reality, Darkness isn't. If it were, you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?"
The professor begins to smile at the student in front of him.

This will be a good semester.
"So what point are you making, young man?"

"Yes, professor. My point is, your philosophical premise is flawed to start with and so your conclusion must also be flawed."
The professor's face cannot hide his surprise this time. "Flawed? Can you explain how?"

"You are working on the premise of duality," the student explains.
"You argue that there is life and then there's death; a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it. Now tell me, professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?"
"If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, young man, yes, of course I do."

"Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?"
The professor begins to shake his head, still smiling, as he realizes where the argument is going. A very good semester indeed.

"Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you now not a scientist, but a preacher?"
The class is in uproar. The student remains silent until the commotion has subsided.

"To continue the point you were making earlier to the other student, let me give you an example of what I mean?" The student looks around the room.
"Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the professor's brain?"

The class breaks out into laughter.
"Is there anyone here who has ever heard the professor's brain, felt the professor's brain, touched or smelt the professor's brain?

No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, with all due respect, sir. So if science says you have no brain, how can we trust your lectures, sir?"

Now the room is silent. The professor just stares at the student, his face unreadable. Finally, after what seems an eternity, the old man answers.
"I guess you'll have to take them on faith."

Fellowship

Today's bible study topic was on the importance of fellowship with fellow christians. I was reminded today that we have been called not to give up on meeting up with one another so that we may edify and encourage one another in our walk with God.

Why is this so important? The Bible illustrates in 1 Corinthians 12 that we are all a member of the body. Some of us are the hands, some the feet, some the eyes, some the ears. Each member plays an important part in the body. Likewise, we are all a member in the body of Christ and we each play an important part in that body! Hence, it is important for us to fellowship and be in harmony with one another.

14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. 15If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 16And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
21The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" 22On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

And most importantly, fellow christians need to learn to deal with conflicts among one another so that we may continue to be effective for the Lord. Thankfully, the Bible gives us clear instructions of what we ought to do when we experience conflict! In 1 Peter 3:8-11, we are told to be symphatetic, loving, compassionate, humble and not to repay evil with evil, nor retaliate when insulted. Instead, we ought to repay with blessings so that we may be blessed in return! It makes perfect sense to me! This is a pretty good way of resolving conflicts! :)

1 Peter 3:8-11 (New Living Translation)

All Christians 8 Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. 9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it. 10 For the Scriptures say,
“If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. 11 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

We can love and forgive others for their shortcomings because God first loved and forgave us when we were yet sinners. I thank God that He created human beings for the very purpose of being in fellowship with Him, and with others. He is a relational God! How cool is that?

So let us continue to love one another and be of encouragement to one another as we continue to meet and fellowship in His name!

Life's puzzle....

Life is like a puzzle. It is difficult to find all the pieces that fit perfectly, sometimes, we just can't find or know the answers, especially about life, about the existence of heaven, judgment day and if God is really the one, true and living God ? We might stumble and fail to give the perfect answers to our pre-believers friends and loved ones at times... Coz' our finite minds just can't fathom these questions, only you, God can. Today, this moment, let us continue to rely on Him, His greatness and His wisdom to reveal himself to the pre-believers in a way that we can't put with mere words. we NEED you , Lord. Pls hear our prayers and may our loved ones experience your grace, love, joy & hope & all the blessings from you and you alone. Thank you for sending Sister Novi back to Grace Assembly and starting bible-study again with Paster Patrick. I pray that our journey with You will never end as we continue to seek you and let your word & ways guide us in this world.

Meet ing up with an old friend

God is good! I met up with May Kong yesterday for dinner. It has been a long time since the last time we met. I had given her a small book with quotes from the bible maybe 2,3 yrs ago. I didn't follow up with her but yesterday as we chatted, I realised that God has been working in her life! She has accepted Christ & God has blessed her with a good job and she has a home church, as well as a cell group. As she shares, i can feel that she has a relationship with God and she is happy and full of joy. :)
This is really an encouragement for me and all of u who are reading this, God hears our prayers and don't give up praying for your friends! Praise God!

Yet another answered prayer!

I met up with an old friend of mine today and was so pleasantly surprised that he has become a Christian. God has answered me and my friends' many prayers for his salvation :)

Thank you Lord!

Career Change

It has been about five months since I decided on making a career change. God has been faithful in helping me transition into my current job. From preparing for the various examinations, to taking and doing well for those examinations, to the smooth application of MAS license, to picking up the knowledge and skills, to leading me to sales leads, and to closing quite a number of deals. Although many will think that I did all these through my own capabilities and hardwork, I beg to differ. God has blessed me with a very wonderful, understanding and supportive husband who plays a vital role in helping me be successful in my work. He has been my pillar of strength and my encouragement through these months, I thank God for sending him into my life! I also thank God for blessing me with His wisdom, strength and patience as I carry out my work :)

I just want to continue to pray for wisdom and humility. And also pray that God will continue to bless the readers of this blog! :)

Good Friday 2007

Thank God! On this Good Friday, God was good and He answered my prayers. Sophia, Sean and Sen attended the good friday sermon by Paster David Lim and we had a great day after that! Praise God!!

I have started another blog for my latest project " 21 necessary acts", ( http://21necessaryacts.blogspot.com/)
this is my second collaboration, with Mei Hsien. I thank God again for my new space in Mohamed Sultan and opportunities to work with other like-minded artists. I pray that Mei Hsien will be open to the gospel and that one day she will know you, out God almighty. I want to commit this Good Friday into Your hands and pray that Sophia, Selina and Sen (the three S) SSS not SHE ..haha will come as they have promised, that they will be no obstacles that will prevent them from attending the service and that the Holy Spirit will speak to them this Friday! In Jesus most precious name, Amen.

My knowledge then was very dim. You could have led me safe to Him.

You taught me many things, that's true. I called you friend and trusted you.

Thanksgiving

Once in a while, I like to take stock of the blessings I received from God. Many things to thank God for.

1) His provisions which allowed me to go on a trip to Sydney. Thank God for the savings I managed to save that made this trip possible.

2) A resttful, relaxing and heartwarming time in Sydney. Thankful for a very enjoyable and fruitful trip with my travel companion. (Both of us managed to rest well and be refreshed through this trip. We survived our first long trip having discovered that we travelled very well together and we could do this again.) Thankful for the great time with our host. Thankful for their love and friendship. Thankful for God's goodness in all three of them. Thankful for the generous hospitality showered by them (I am always full of respect and admiration towards people who can be such hospitable hosts because it's an area of struggle for me).

3) Few moments of quiet time with God during the Sydney trip. I have not been doing my quiet time with God much. Lately, I have forgotten to pause and talk to God. During the trip, I was thankful that I managed to pause and bask in His presence. Few moments of quiet time: when my host's child ( a little beautiful girl) and I took a stroll along the beach; when we were playing with the waves; when I was alone in the loft looking out of the window; when my travel companion and I were at Blue mountain....

4) Affirmation and recognition of good work at the workplace - appointed as the academic manager; got my performance bonus; given the Asian Nursing Scholars consultancy project; given the Ministry of Foreign Affairs consultancy job in Cambodia.

5) Found a very good dog hotel for Rusty when I went away. Thankful that the dog hotel owner handled Rusty very well. Rusty obeyed him and grew attached to him. Rusty could walk off leash in the nearby park and ran back to the dog hotel on his own. I was so happy when I heard the dog hotel owner tell me that I really wanted to cry. Rusty also got to play with other dogs when he stayed there.

6) My loving parents, sister, brother and sister-in-law. Have been having great family time with them lately. I thank God for every one of them.

7) Still extremely thankful for this roof that I could call my own. Thankful for the beautiful times spent at home.

Lay back and do nothing?

Since we have faith in Christ Jesus to provide us with all things, then why do we have to work so hard? To have faith in Jesus Christ, does God mean for us to lay back and do nothing with our life right now?

This is one of the Frequently Asked Questions by many who are trying to understand what this faith is all about.

So is that the will of God? Does God want me to trust in Him, have faith, and just lay back and have no goals or achievements in life?

Shih Yun gave me a good analogy to clear this misconception as we were doing bible study today. This is her analogy:

It is like planting a tree. To go about planting a tree, one needs to dig a hole, sow the seed and water the plant regularly. Now, how fruitful the tree will become is affected by many factors in life. Some of which is within our control, and others which are not. To have faith in God is to entrust in Him the factors that are beyond our control.

Thank God !!! for too many things....

First of all, thank God again for my new space at Mohamed Sultan Rd.
Thank God for the smooth transition, the move, the unpacking and all.
I have been working here since 2 March 2007. God has blessed me with
a project with Smirnoff. The 3 of us, myself, Mei Hsien & Susan did part
of the painting @instinc and finish off the rest of the painting on the spot.
'Live' painting in front of strangers is nerve-racking, I was quite nervous
to tell you honestly :) God was good and He was there and I thank God for the
completion of our works and Mei Hsien even has a buyer for her painting!
I also Thank God for Mei Hsien, an artist/print-maker from NAFA as she is
sharing my space,which means I will have a lighter burden for the rental part. I pray
that God will continue to bless me so that I can continue to paint and glorify Him with
the talent He has given me.

My sister, Ida

We had a great time celebrating my sister’s birthday last weekend! It started out from warming up our voices to holding our own personal concert at the karaoke! It has been a long, long time since any of us went for K. I just want to thank God that my sister, Ida accepted Jesus into her life about one or two years ago. I had been praying for her for about close to ten years before that! In Acts 16:30-31, Paul’s and Sila’s reply to the jailer when he asked "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" was "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household." Be encouraged that salvation is also for your family. So for those who are still praying for the salvation of your family, keep on praying and trust in the Lord’s plan and timing!

my very first entry...so exciting... god has blessed me so much too... especially in my artistic career. He has provided me with a great space(good location with a reasonable rental) to work as well as exhibit and conduct workshops at Emerlad Hill Road for the past one year plus. During these times here@Emerald Hill, the Lord has sent so many people to me and my fellow artists, Wyn-Lyn and Valerie Ng, esp in the media side... I thank God for much coverage in many magazines and Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao etc. Due to this, we organized many artnights workshops too here. God had also sent many buyers who appreciate our artworks even though we are all painting in an abstract manner. As we have to move out end Feb this year, I have been praying to God for a suitable location, together with Pastor Patrick & Novi whenever we meet for our bible-study group. I thank God again for finally finding a location at Mohammad Sultan Road . I will continue to pray for His guidance and wisdom in running instinc and that he will continue to watch over us. Thank God for my dear sister Novi too for keeping me in her prayers all this while. May God be the Glory!!! :)

Official Launch - extended version

Hi everybody! God has been such a loving, patient and faithful God in 2006. He has blessed me so abundantly, I can hardly contain it! These are just some of the things that happened to me in 2006:

Feb - Found a nice apartment when property was just at about its lowest point (thanks to my great in-laws). Great size, location, layout and price! I love it.

April - Got retrenched (Thank God!) and got married to my wonderful husband (A bigger thanks!)

May to Oct - Spent these few months in Europe with my husband who had been relocated there for about 8 months. I would call it a "sponsored and extended honeymoon".. we went to so many places in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and France. We truly had an amazing time traveling!

Well, these are just some of the great things that happened to me. And I know of friends who had wonderful things happening to them too! So I was just thinking, we need to share these great accounts with everybody! Thus the creation of "Bless and Blessed", a site especially for remembering what God has done in our lives and to thank Him for it.

For fellow believers in Christ, I hope that this site will encourage you to share and remember the good things in your lives, and more importantly, how the bad things are made good because of our faith in God. If you have a testimony, I strongly urge you to spend a couple of minutes posting it up on this site. Own this site! You never know just who you can truly encourage and bless.

Today shall be the first day that this site is officialy launched. Those of you who are reading this have probably received my invitation to become a part of this site and an author of your own life. I pray that God will use this website for the extension of His kingdom, and to build strong fellowship among His children.
